Our PRA colleagues are joining together to participate in the LLS “Light theNight” event, a fundraising campaign to “bring light to the darkness of cancer.”
Every year, more than 60,000 people are diagnosed with leukemia, and more than 382,000 live with the disease or are in remission. Organizations like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) are committed to supporting patients and their families – and equally committed to find a cure.
Team captains Cindy Craddock, Associate Director, Accounting & Finance, and Ben Wenner, Associate Project Manager, share their reasons for participating – and their hopes for the future of finding cures:
Join us in bringing light to the darkness of cancer! We are forming a fundraising walk team for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night.Register today to join our team or make a donation and help fund cancer cures!
What inspired you to participate in this year’s Light the Night?
Cindy: I can’t think of anyone I know who hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way. One of the most interesting things I learned from the team at LLS was that 40% of the drugs currently approved by the FDA to treat cancer were first developed for blood cancers, given blood is much more easily studied and controlled compared to solid tumors. So the research LLS is funding is much larger than leukemia and lymphoma alone and is supporting the overall mission to defeat all types of cancer.
Ben: Since I’m new to PRA, it’s giving me the chance to work with other proactive PRA leaders and meet other employees; the opportunity to use my soft skills; to learn more about LLS, their mission and our positive relationship with them; and, ultimately, selflessly help others in need. This opportunity has been an amazing experience to truly embody PRA’s culture and makes me feel significant in being part of an organization that cares!
Cindy: Being philanthropic has always been a huge priority to me and my family. We are so blessed that it only makes sense we give back in the form of time and money. As an organization we have access to all types of resources, including our vast network of talent and when we come together for a common goal we can accomplish anything.
Ben: I believe it is critical to be part of an organization that participates in philanthropic activities like LLS Light the Night campaign because it not only lets employees take initiative on a unique front in PRA’s mission, but it also shows our community that we care; that we’re a force for the greater good.
What do you think events like this will do to help organizations like LLS?
Cindy: I hope these types of events will bring us together for a common goaland remind us of the importance of giving back.
Cindy: My role at PRA has allowed me to interact with our sponsors as well as the PRA internal team to support audit efforts and ensure controlled and quality trials, as well as the overall compliance environment contributing to the success of our studies.
Ben: I believe our efforts in supporting organizations like LLS and events like their Light the Night campaign will provide resources for cancer research, spread awareness to people across the globe, assist patients, survivors, families, and friends with support services needed, and to offer hope when there’s despair and shed light where there is darkness. Our impact reaches far beyond what we see and do on a daily basis with a caring family like PRA – and that’s a great feeling.
